Musical Director wanted for central London wind orchestra
Who we are
Formed in 2006, the City of London Symphonic Winds is a high-standard amateur wind orchestra based in central London. Performing a range of challenging symphonic wind music as well as lighter numbers, we are a friendly and sociable group of around 40 musicians. We give three concerts a year and these are usually held on Sunday afternoons, but occasionally Saturday evenings too. Our website gives an idea of our past repertoire: www.clsw.org.uk/category/concert/
Who we are looking for
An enthusiastic and experienced conductor with a good knowledge of symphonic wind orchestra repertoire, who is keen to explore new challenges and exciting concert programmes with the group.
What the role involves
Preparing stimulating concert programmes in consultation with the orchestra’s committee. Developing the group by planning and leading rehearsals; these are usually four Friday evenings (7:00pm-9:45pm) in City of London venues in the run up to each concert. A willingness to engage with audiences and introduce/talk about pieces during concerts. In return, we offer a friendly environment, a supportive committee, and an opportunity to tackle interesting repertoire with good musicians. A modest sum is also paid per concert including cover for all expenses.
Please contact us by 18th May on firstname.lastname@example.org with your CV and details of experience if you are interested in being considered for this position, and/or for more information. Please note that applicants may be invited to attend one of our rehearsals as part of the appointment process (this will be on a Friday evening in June).
