CHARLEY BRIGHTON

Charley Brighton began playing euphonium at school, aged 11. On leaving school he was appointed Solo Euphonium of some of the top Championship brass bands in London & Bristol. In 1996, he was awarded the trophy for the ‘Most Outstanding Euphonium Player’ in the Championship Section of the London National Finals. That year he also joined the New River Wind Ensemble, based in London and performed the Josef Horovitz Euphonium Concerto with them at a BASBWE conference in Canterbury. He was later to become Musical Director of that band, and also the Burnham Concert Band in Buckinghamshire. It was with the Burnham band that he visited France as guest soloist and conductor with the l’orchestra d’Harmonie de Lezay in April of 2000. On leaving Burnham, he accepted the position of Principal Euphonium (and guest conductor) of the B.B.C. Elstree Concert Band, based at Maida Vale Studios in London, and the Buckinghamshire Symphonic Winds based in High Wycombe. In February of 2001, he also accepted the post of Musical Director to the Vale Symphonic Wind Band based in Wendover, Buckinghamshire. In November of 2004, he signed a contract with the Swiss euphonium manufacturers, Willson, as a performing artist and was presented with the latest top of the range model. He has recently featured as guest soloist with the Nonesuch String Orchestra, The Hounslow Symphony Orchestra and the Christ Church Canterbury University Wind Orchestra. In November of 2006, he also toured Los Angeles as guest soloist with the British Airways Brass Band.
